What is sedge (or seagrass)?

Sedge (or seagrass) grows naturally in South-East Asian coastal areas. For our products, we mainly use cultivated sedge from field areas that have previously been flooded by the sea, making them unsuitable for rice cultivation. But sedge grows well in salty soils and even helps cleanse them. After harvest, the plant is left to dry in the sun making it a hardwearing fibre ideal for weaving or braiding products with beautiful colour variations, like baskets, mats and lampshades.

Small scale, big makeover
Small scale, big makeover

Let’s talk about another wonderful makeover! They say it's best to prepare for winter in summer, but this time, it was another way around – awaiting the makeover in the middle of winter, there was a miniature summerhouse. This summer residence belongs to a small family of three. A spontaneous purchase at first, this has become a favourite spot to spend their summers. The owners liked their "dwarf house" a lot but they felt the lack of ideas as to how to make the interior more functional and beautiful. This is where the IKEA interior designer stepped in.
