Good to know

All new materials have their own particular smell, which gradually disappears. Airing and vacuuming the rug will help to eliminate the smell.

You will need 1 STOPP FILT rug underlay with anti-slip (165x235 cm) for this rug. Trim if necessary.

The rug is machine woven.

Rugs with structure or hard edges can cause marks on soft wooden floors even when used together with an anti-slip underlay.

To get the edge of your rug to lie flat without curling up, fold the edge in the opposite direction and place a heavy object on top for 2 days.

Use STOPP FILT rug underlay with anti-slip for increased safety and comfort; to be placed under the entire rug.

Keep in the warmth with natural jute fibre

LOHALS rug is made of 100% jute. It’s a highly durable, natural fibre that doesn’t need large amounts of pesticides or fertilisers to grow. A jute rug is also a good companion for cold floors, as it has great heat insulation qualities.

What is jute?

Jute is a very hardwearing fibre that is found in the stem of the jute plant. It’s an easy-to-grow plant that requires very little fertiliser, pesticides or water and is ready to harvest after only 120 days. The jute fibre is often used for ropes and sacks but is also known for its silky-smooth lustre and can be spun into finer threads which are then woven. In our range we often use woven jute for items like curtains, rugs and furniture.

Ideas and inspiration

Your warm and cosy living room
Your warm and cosy living room

It’s the time of year to get snug, get cosy, and make space for what matters, like the things we do together: with our loved ones, our home, and ourselves. Whether that’s creating a quiet spot for some we-time or laying a seasonal table for a special occasion, we invite you to open this magical season of togetherness. Why not start by bringing some warm and cosy feeling into your living room?

The best of both: a colourful shared living-sleep area
The best of both: a colourful shared living-sleep area

When there just isn’t enough space for a conventional setup, creativity quickly becomes your best friend. Divide up the living room with fabric, introduce some lightweight, multi-purpose furniture, infuse with a whole lot of colour and pattern and this is where you’ll land: a welcoming and fun space where sleeping and socialising can coexist in harmony. Making do? More like making magic!

Reuse, repair, recycle, reimagine: living more sustainably with IKEA
Reuse, repair, recycle, reimagine: living more sustainably with IKEA

At IKEA, we’re on an exciting journey to become a circular business by 2030, making healthy and more sustainable living accessible and more affordable to people around the world. We’re reimagining how we do things, from how and where our materials are sourced, to how our products are designed, transported, sold and – eventually – recycled. Like anything worthwhile, it’s a process filled with new challenges and adventures, but we’re well on our way to helping create a better everyday life for people and the planet.

Ask a designer: living more sustainably on a budget

“I want to furnish my home sustainably, but I don’t have much money. How do I do it?” There is this idea that living more sustainably is expensive, but it absolutely does not have to be. You can furnish your home to be a beautiful, warm and colourful place in a way that is good for the planet but good for your wallet too. We chatted to interior designer Chiara Effroi Lutteri about how she created a home that’s just that: poppy, practical and filled with lower-impact choices – all on a shoestring budget.

Free-range family: a countryside home for a big family

This big-city crew traded the concrete jungle for a calmer, fresher life in the countryside. With nature as their next-door neighbour, their safe and welcoming country home is where their three small children have the freedom to learn, play and thrive. And just be kids!
